{"id":161,"date":"2010-10-22T09:10:47","date_gmt":"2010-10-22T12:10:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trepa.org\/?p=161"},"modified":"2010-10-22T09:15:37","modified_gmt":"2010-10-22T12:15:37","slug":"eac-call-for-show-of-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trepa.org\/?p=161","title":{"rendered":"EAC call for show of support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We\u2019re in the final stages of a three-year process to develop a new direction for our natural resources.\u00a0\u00a0The first step was public consultation, and Nova Scotians gave an over-whelming call for change.\u00a0\u00a0Then, a panel of expertise provided in-depth analysis and detailed\u00a0<a href=\"x-msg:\/\/329\/\">recommendations<\/a> for positive change.\u00a0\u00a0Now, government is deciding how to act on the public\u2019s concerns and the experts\u2019 report.\u00a0\u00a0As expected, some in the forestry industry launched a strong campaign against the recommended changes.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0We need to show the government that they have the support to stand up against those who wish to preserve the status quo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>On Friday October 29th at 10:00<\/strong> <strong>at the Legislature building in Halifax<\/strong>, hundreds of Nova Scotians will join in a public show of support for the future of Nova Scotia&#8217;s forests and the communities that depend on them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We need you there with us: <\/strong><strong>Province House: <\/strong><a href=\"x-msg:\/\/329\/\"><strong>1726 Hollis Street, Halifax<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Together, we will send a clear and strong message of support for change: (1) dramatically reduce clearcutting through regulation, (2) support people who are practising responsible forestry, and (3) stop subsidizing those who clearcut our forests.<\/p>\n<p>We will show the NDP that they have Nova Scotians&#8217; support to implement these changes.\u00a0 Now is the time to show support for our forests.<strong> This is the best chance for positive change we&#8217;ve ever had.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s not lose it!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once a forest to marvel at, our forest is now classified as endangered by the World Wildlife Fund.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve seen a precipitous loss of old forest, wildlife habitat and valuable trees, while cutting has increased and forest employment has decreased.<\/p>\n<p>A bird&#8217;s eye view of Nova Scotia through &#8220;Google Earth&#8221;
