We reminded him that\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', 'Bitstream Charter', Times, serif;\">the Carleton catchment experience emphasizes the need to manage rural development on the basis of catchment areas because downstream effects do not respect political boundaries.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', 'Bitstream Charter', Times, serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', 'Bitstream Charter', Times, serif;\">We asked to be included in the discussion of current drafting and fine-tuning of fur farming regulations in the province. \u00a0We requested access to the latest version, for study and comment so we could have input at the earliest point.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', 'Bitstream Charter', Times, serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', 'Bitstream Charter', Times, serif;\">We received the following letter back:<\/span><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Thank you for your interest in the development of the new Fur Industry Act\u00a0Regulations. The regulation development process, which is now underway,\u00a0requires considerable research of engineering and scientific information\u00a0and\u00a0advice from a variety of technical experts. This will take some time to\u00a0compile.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>We find consultations are more effective when parties have\u00a0specific\u00a0content to focus and comment upon; therefore once draft regulations are\u00a0available, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">we will be contacting selected stakeholders to provide feedback\u00a0on the technical and effective aspects<\/span><\/em><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>If you have further questions about the new Act or regulations you may\u00a0contact Bonnie Rankin, Acting Manager, Legislative and Policy Services at\u00a0424-4560.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Yours truly,<\/em><\/p>\n<address>John MacDonell<\/address>\n<address>Minister<\/address>\n<address>Department of Agriculture<\/address>\n<address><\/address>\n<address><\/address>\n<address><\/address>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We have added the underline above to highlight the vagueness of process in development of regulations. Who are &#8220;selected stakeholders?&#8221; Does this mean that the people who live in the watershed or other &#8220;non-selected&#8221; experts will have no chance to provide feedback on technical and effective aspects?
