For changes see subsequent minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>TREPA<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Minutes<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>June 5, 2019<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The meeting of the Board of Directors of TREPA, at 7S P.M. at Main Street location.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Present:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Barrie MacGregor, Eko Raharjo, Dianne Klomp, John Sollows, Mike Raynard, Roy Fudge, John Morris, Nicola Roberts-Fenton and Ginny Smith.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Regrets: Jennifer Cunningham, Jean Cleveland, Debbie Sullivan, Dan Earle and Larry Deveau.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Approval Agenda with additions of two letters: one from Ann Jones; another from Donna Crossland.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Moved by John Morris, 2<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><sup>nd<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> by Roy Fudge, Carried.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Approve May Minutes-Moved by Roy, 2<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><sup>nd<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"s1\"> by John M. Carried.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Treasurer\u2019s Report-Circulated-Reviewed April- $155 net income and no expenses. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">John S. felt that no EI nor CPP was payable from last year\u2019s payroll expenses. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>No payroll was payable after August, 2018, and there has been no request for payment of remittances by CRA.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Jennifer may be able to confirm further.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Re HST-there is a possibility of recovery of the HST expenses.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is being investigated. It appears difficult to recoup past expenses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>OLD BUSINESS:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"> 1.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Water Quality Monitoring-<b>John stated that $2000 has been committed from Adopt- a \u2013stream; $600 from Municipality of Argyle;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>no funds from Clare; Municipality of Yarmouth will announce a decision this month.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Adopt a Stream <\/b>had a meeting in Debert, but the distance was too great for any TREPA member to attend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">John S has had discussions with Andrew Sinclair and others regarding<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>the blue green algae tests.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>A number of changes are planned:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Andrew needs to discuss with Jean before finalization. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>John S. would like to continue testing Kegeshook .<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There will not be enough funds to do 14 lakes but John does not consider that to be a serious issue. .<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">2. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Op Eds-We did not have an article this month.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We did get good coverage on Judy Greens\u2019 presentation and the Boomerang Bags.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">3. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Summer Jobs<b>&#8211;<\/b>We have received funds for 9 weeks from Canada Summer Jobs but we have not had money from Eco Action to match the grant, so the 15 week position has had to be scrapped.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>However, we did get enough $ for the Environmental Officer position.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There are three good candidates.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The job will start July 2.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The interviews will take place June 21. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>John will circulate the posting on the web sight.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Approval given. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">4. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Lobster Draw-Winner Roland Nickerson. Barrie suggested we try another spelling and another phone #.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We made approximately $400 on the lobster draw this year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">5. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Argyle Municipal garbage pickup: $525 was earned and the cheque was deposited.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">6. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>DFO-kiak sampling-John updated earlier; there are three students working with one DFO supervisor. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">7. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>DFO Coastal Restoration Fund (Bluenose Coastal Action Program). No news.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">8.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Morris Lloyd-Apparently, there will be by-law subdivision rule changes due in part to changes in the way property is bought, sold and divided over time with land titles changing hands frequently. ie the \u201cfour lot rule\u201d will have to be upheld-no further dividing.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>A PAC meeting in is expected in June and is expected to consider riparian issues. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">9<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Shelburne\/Annapolis Clear Cuts-<b>John\/Barrie<\/b> Barrie hasn\u2019t heard anything new about Shelburne except that there was a student protest in Shelburne last week.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Minister Ian Rankin did write back to John he felt that the proposed logging would not affect the Important Bird Area but did seem open to greater public involvement in determining forestry directions. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There are concerns about Westfor Clear Cuts in Annapolis as well.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Mike things that this is a climate change issue, as do other members of the board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>NEW BUSINESS:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b> <\/b>1.<b> <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>MTRI Membership-done<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"> 2. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Climate presentation-Judy Green-57 people present.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The organization of Climate Extinction has a number of sub groups and would like to expand.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There have been some recent articles about single use plastic in the media.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Mike sent a link to TREPA members about an article on energy efficient vehicles which is another major concern.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">We agreed that we should keep the education piece re: climate change on the agenda.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Donkin Mine is another example of the subjects that we could discuss. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"> 3.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>June 8-Oceans Day-Fix it Fair\/Recycle\/Repurpose &#8212;sponsored by Waste Check at Beacon Church-10-2:00-<b>Ginny<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"> 4. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Letters-Response from Minister Ian Rankin\/\/Workers compensation.\/\/Read a Letter from Ann Jones wrote to Yarmouth Municipality regarding the environmental concerns about the Prime Transmission location.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>She was especially concerned about the Riparian Zone as it applies to this situation. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Her complaints refllect TREPA\u2019s concerns.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><b>John<\/b> S. will send her copies of our letters to the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Municipal Council.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We too want to find out how the council is responding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Letter from Donna Crossland- wrote concerning a Westfor clear cut in the Annapolis area.
