IT’S HIGH TIME FOR A SILENT SEASON IN NOVA SCOTIA:
\nOver the next few days, you’ll be hearing more about the need for a
\nSILENT SEASON to be established here in Nova Scotia.\u00a0 What that means
\nis that there would be a “time out” during peak bird nesting season —
\nan official period of time when forestry MUST CEASE its logging
\noperations to allow birds to nest and raise their young so that they
\nare fledged and ready for their impending fall migration. No longer
\nshould they be subjected to being disturbed and destroyed by forestry
\noperations. Other creatures would also benefit from this quiet time –
\nmammals could raise their young without being terrorized by loud
\nmachinery hacking down the forest around them.\u00a0 Young amphibians in
\nvernal pools and streams in forests would have a chance to develop
\nbefore being pulverized beneath the wheels of heavy equipment.
\nTurtles would be less likely to be crushed as they cross roadways to
\nmake their way to nesting sites to lay eggs.\u00a0 It would be a WIN for
\nall creatures.\u00a0 It would also help to prevent devastating fire events
\nlike the one that happened earlier this week and doubtless left many
\nnests, eggs, and birds charred amongst the smoking carnage.<\/p>\n

What can you do? NOW IS THE TIME TO SPEAK UP!!!\u00a0 It is important to
\nsend a clear message to the politicians of this province that we are
\nFED UP with the lousy way that nature is being treated.\u00a0 WE WANT
\nCHANGE NOW!\u00a0 Not NEXT YEAR or the year after.\u00a0 THAT’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH.<\/p>\n

What all of us need to do is start sending emails, letters, making
\nphone calls, writing to news websites, posting on social media, and
\ndoing whatever else we can to say, NO MORE!\u00a0 NO MORE DESTRUCTION!
