{"id":429,"date":"2011-04-10T10:43:53","date_gmt":"2011-04-10T13:43:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trepa.org\/?p=429"},"modified":"2011-04-10T10:43:53","modified_gmt":"2011-04-10T13:43:53","slug":"freecycle-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.trepa.org\/?p=429","title":{"rendered":"Freecycle success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Saturday, April 9th, the Tusket River Environmental Protection Association held its fourth annual electronics Freecycle at Beacon Hall.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Members of the public with working surplus electronic equipment dropped it off between 9 \u00a0and 10:00 am. \u00a0Other members of the public were free to take the donated items, at no cost, between 10:00 am and noon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Unfortunately, no computers were given and there was considerable demand. \u00a0If you have an old computer to jettison, don&#8217;t throw it out! \u00a0Advertise it in the local media to give away.\u00a0Pretty clearly, there are a lot of people in the region who need computers and who cannot afford to buy one.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Given away were printers, phones, Palm Pilots, speakers, a complete hi-fi system, CB components, TV&#8217;s and many cords and connector cables.\u00a0On the other hand, of eight computer monitors, five had to go to the recyclers. \u00a0The supply of monitors continues to exceed the demand! All items not claimed were delivered to the recycle centre.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This event keeps usable electronic equipment parts from the landfill, saves the energy needed to recycle material from the equipment, and makes the equipment available to many people who otherwise would not have the means to buy it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nMany thanks to Beacon United Church for providing the space, to folks who brought in donations and those who picked it up, and to TREPA members Margrit Robinson, Art Earle, Dan Earle, Carol and \u00a0Gerald Jacquard, \u00a0and Mil Nickerson for their help.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, April 9th, the Tusket River Environmental Protection Association held its fourth annual electronics Freecycle at Beacon Hall.
