Carleton Country Outfitters helping out

In response to our posting on Plastic Bags and environmental issues we heard from Carlton Country Outfitters about their program. They RECYLE the bags back to the the food bank. They take donations of bags at the Carleton store and drop them off at the food bank once a month. That is a great idea, a way to recycle and help keep the bags out of the wild environment where they do the most damage. So, if you are in the Carleton store area, drop off your bags while you are purchasing some needed items for your home.

Thanks to the Carlton Country Outfitters for letting us know about their program. Great job!

Plastic bags and our waterbodies

One of the Gulf of Maine Institute teams in Massachusetts is assisting in working toward elimination of plastic bags from the waste/litter/ocean pollution stream. We have had some effort toward this in the Yarmouth area but we are not being very successful. Plastic bags account for a high amount of litter and do pollute our streams, waterways and near-shore environment.

A reminder that you can help to be part of the solution. Bring your own bags and boxes when shopping. When you do get a plastic bag make sure it is properly recycled.

Here are the information sheets being used in Massachusetts. The data is for the U.S. but it is easy to extrapolate  it to Canada. We all share the Gulf of Maine, the Atlantic Ocean and the atmosphere.
